San Pedro

Hello again! I hope all is well. Thanks for the comments and e-mails. Matt, Jenny, and I have been in San Pedro la Laguna for the past couple of days studying Spanish and living with a Mayan family. It´s a bit of a hippie town, but our school and family are on the outskirts so we don´t see any of that. Guatemala is having a bit of a freak currency crisis right now. We´re still not sure what is happening, but after endless trips to the bank, we´ve managed to get some money out of the ATM. They´ve mostely been empty. Things are great now. Lago de Atitlan is beautiful and the people hear are friendly. Central Tz´utujil (the Mayan langauge spoken around here in San Pedro and surrounding town) is very much alive. Although, it has a lot of glottal sounds that I have no idea how to produce. Right now we really need to concentrate on Spanish. We´re headed up the volcan on Saturday (it{s right out the back door), and after helping our family in their coffee field on Monday, we´re heading West to Quetzaltenango. We´ll be in touch.

Na´an (Tz´utujil for Adios)

Hey Ben

Wow, it is so good to hear form you. What an amazing opportunity you have been blessed with. I look forward to hearing more about your adventures and about what you are learning about the culture and the people of the places you are visiting.

I want to Challenge you with this “learn to do right, seek justice, encourage the oppressed, defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow” Isaiah 1:17 God’s heart is for justice, I would think being in that area would give you ample opportunity to work through what that means and consequently how that can be lived out in your own life!

Yes I’m still at Bible collage and loving the opportunity that I have been given for God to stretch me and challenge me. I pray the same for you in your travels.

Blessings

Hey Ben,
I am so jealous. Not to mention the fact that you must be getting some really good tan, lol, but also the fact that you are living out a once-in-a-lifetime, amazing experience that will surely touch you and change the way you are for the better. If only we all were so lucky. It is really neat to hear that you are also learning some of the local language as well as spanish que es mas importante. I really hope to hear more about your amazing adventure.
God bless and safe travels to you and your brother and sister.
